Biography:
Eric Schnell was born in Bloomington, Indiana in
1968. In 1995 He graduated from the University of Houston with a B.F.A. in
studio painting and a minor in English Literature. In 1998 he received a M.F.A.
from Columbia University, with a concentration in studio arts.
His artwork has been shown across the United States.
He has built installations for Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Momenta Art,
Brooklyn, Artist Space, NYC, The Fashion Institute of Technology, NYC,
Arthouse, Austin, TX and other non-profit art spaces. He has been awarded
several grants in support of his artwork, the most recent was from the
Pollock-Krasner Foundation. In 2006 he was chosen to be the American
representative at the Internationl Studio and Critic Program in New York City.
In 2010 he cofounded
The Galveston Artist Residency and
Gallery with scientist Bert Geary. The
Galveston Artist Residency welcomed its first group of artists in 2011, and the
GAR Gallery opened to the public in 2012.
In 2016, cofounder and assistant editor of Binder magazine with Dan Schmahl and Sallie Barbee.
